Table of Contents

Effective Date

Starting July 1, 2025, all regulated vehicles requiring a Safety Fitness Certificate for operations in Manitoba must display the registered owner’s National Safety Code (NSC) number.

Who is Affected?

The regulation applies to:

  • In-province and out-of-province operators traveling on Manitoba’s roads and highways.
  • Power units, including trucks and truck tractors.

Note: The requirement does not apply to semi-trailers.

Display Requirements

Under Part 3 of the Regulated Vehicles (Safety Fitness, Operator Identification and Records and Vehicle Exemptions) Regulation, operators must:

  • Display the registered operator’s name, logo, or distinctive mark on each lateral side of the vehicle.
  • Clearly indicate the NSC number on both sides of the vehicle.
  • Ensure each letter or figure is at least five centimeters in height and width and contrasts with the background for visibility.

Best Practices for Compliance

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure recommends that:

  • The registered operator’s identification markings be the most prominent when multiple company names or logos appear on a single vehicle.
  • The NSC number is clearly identified using labels such as:
    • NSC #:
    • NSC:
    • NSC No.:

Operators should ensure compliance with these new requirements before the deadline to avoid any regulatory issues.
